Low working voltage: The general working voltage is 3.0~3.6V. Some have lower working voltage, such as 2.0, 2.5, 2.7V, etc.; some have working voltage of 5V, and there are a few special-purpose voltage sources of 12V or 28V.


Low working current: From a few milliamperes to a few amperes, but because the working current of most embedded electronic products is less than 300mA, the power supply IC of 30~300mA accounts for a large proportion in variety and quantity.

 

Small package size: Portable products developed in recent years have adopted surface mount devices, and power supply IC is no exception. There are mainly SO package, SOT-23 package, μMAX package and the smallest package size SC-70 and the latest SMD package, which makes the space occupied by the power supply smaller and smaller.

 

Perfect protection measures: The new power supply IC has perfect protection measures, including: output overcurrent limit, overheat protection, short circuit protection and battery polarity reverse connection protection, so that the power supply works safely and reliably and is not easy to damage.

 

Low power consumption and power off function: The quiescent current of new power ICs is relatively small, generally tens of μA to hundreds of μA. The quiescent current of some micro-power linear regulators is only 1.1μA. In addition, many power ICs have the function of shutting down the power control terminal (controlled by level), and the IC itself consumes about 1μA when the power is turned off. Since it can make part of the circuit not work, it can greatly save energy. For example, on wireless communication equipment, the receiving circuit can be turned off in the sending state; the display circuit can be turned off when no signal is received.

 

There is a power working status signal output: Many portable electronic products have single-chip microcomputers. When the output voltage drops by a certain percentage due to overheating or low battery voltage, the power IC has a power working status signal that is output to the single-chip microcomputer to reset the single-chip microcomputer. This signal can also be used to indicate the power working status (when the battery voltage is low, there is an LED display).
